An exciting opportunity has arisen to help drive forward the community ministry and commercial activity of St Thomas’ Church in Chesterfield.

Based in the St Thomas’ eco-Centre we are seeking a resourceful and innovative ‘people’ person with a passion for hospitality and attention to detail that can lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who have made our Centre a vital hub for community and a first choice venue for business. Our Centre incorporates a purpose built coffee shop, kitchens and multi-sized meeting spaces that creates a relaxed and comfortable gathering place for individuals, groups or parties. As well as managing our busy Centre you will hold responsibility for exploring and developing the many new business ideas we have as an enterprise company as well as helping us discover new ones that will further enrich the life of St Thomas’ and extend the ministry of the church.

Above all you will have a passion for Christian hospitality and desire to see the ministry of the church extended through creative commercial activity. Last Sunday was the date for the CEC Open Air Service at Lounsdley Green Church.  After an overcast morning the sun came out on cue and it was gloriously hot. There was some 'warm up' worship while we enjoyed our picnics with the service itself starting at 13.30.  There were a couple of great items with the puppets from Central Methodist Church, two songs from John Pickering, prayers and a short talk all on the subject of loving our neighbour.  Activities for the children included a bouncy castle, glitter tattoos and balloon modelling or for the less energetic a cuppa and a biscuit! We had a good time so thank you to all the organisers.

Chesterfield man, Tom Hardwick, from Holmebrook Valley Church has arrived in the USA to work and study with the organisation founded by Joni Eareckson Tada called 'Joni & Friends.'  Their mission is to take the gospel to those who live with a disability of some kind, people who in many cultures are considered as worthless and who are marginalised.  Their message is the good news of Jesus which is for everyone and the truth that God has a purpose and a plan for every life.
During his time there Tom will be acting as mentor to a person with a disability as well as receiving training.  He's planning to make good use of everything he has learned on his return to Chesterfield.
