Yvonne was somewhat type-cast as a street pastor in this lovely Puppet Praise production called 'Shine' at Central Methodist tonight.  She is pictured discussing with the aliens the strange sources of light they have spotted from their space craft. She explains these are Christians shining the light of Jesus. Not too dissimilar to what she does for real on Saturday night in town!

An enjoyable performance with lots of great music, dance and so many different puppets and puppeteers.  Watch out for their next event and invite your friends - they really are very good.

Our next regional CTfC prayer meeting will be at St Thomas' Church Centre off Chatsworth Road at Brampton on Tuesday 19th November 7.30pm.  There is ample car parking space in front of the building.

As before we will be praying for the Brampton area and those who live, work and worship there.  Everyone is welcome.

The second teaching session on the Worship Central Course takes place this Saturday 2nd November at St John's Church, Walton Back Lane, Walton.  Join us at 9am for a light breakfast followed by a time of worship and Peter Topliss speaking on 'Encountering God'.  Everyone welcome.

For more information contact Gail at New Life Church on 07808 448146

We're halfway through our half term week at Community YoungStars and everyone is having a good time.  Whether trying out creative craft ideas, playing games, pool and table tennis or being baffled by Mike's tricky tricks.  Volunteer helpers are drawn from more than half a dozen local churches and the team is working well together.  It has been lovely to have some parents stay and join in the fun too.

Just two days left, but it's not too late to come and join in.  You'll find us at Church in the Peak at the end of New St, off Park Road from 10am - 12 noon.

Remember all the fun we had at YoungStars in the summer?  YoungStars is back for half term next week.  All the same fun and free activities but a new time and a new venue.  Church in the Peak off New Street have kindly offered us the run of their building which is perfect for YoungStars.  We'll be there Mon to Fri next week Oct 28th - 1st Nov 10am - 12 noon.
If anyone can offer to help out with either one or all of the mornings we would be most appreciative of your support. 01246 345750

Were you there, when……..?

I quote Martin Gage, Regional Officer for Christian Aid: ‘If we meet in a Catholic church, with an anglican speaker, a Catholic musician, a Methodist organiser and an Independent Chair, we are getting something right.’.

That is how it was on Wednesday October 9th, when Christians Together met for business at 6.30, there was wine (and soft drinks)and cheese at 7.15, worship at 7.45, an address from Bishop Martin with Q&A at 8.15, concluding with ‘Thine be the Glory’, played on the Fr Willis organ.

Bishop Martin Njaboho is from Burundi, where he is very involved in aspects of development and reconciliation.  He had primary education in French (Burundi having been a Belgian colony, alongside Congo), speaks Kiyarwanda (the main vernacular), but addressed us in fluent, idiomatic English.

This was the second time that CTfC has collaborated with Christian Aid.  We heard earlier in the year of the IF campaign.

So Christians Together is doing its best to cover ‘the total Christian enterprise’ in the borough.   Ideas as to how it can do even better will be welcomed before the next Enabling Group on November 27th.  In particular, will you help with launching School Pastors – a close relative of Street Pastors, but in the daytime and only for an hour or two at a time….? The present cohort of volunteers needs a little boost.

This is a call first and foremost to people in the Birdholme area, but to anyone else who likes to share in our neighbourhood prayers cycle.

A late arrangement has been made with Terry Norman at Derby Road Methodists on Jawbones Hill for a prayer gathering on Monday 7th.  We shall meet at 7.30, the hallowed hour.  Friends from Holy Family RC parish and from SS Augustine’s will be specially welcome, but also anyone who has a heart for that area, from wherever, is welcome to come.   Plenty of parking.
