Pretty full house at Church in the Peak tonight with those wanting to know more about how our Food Bank will operate starting next month.

It looks as though we will have two distribution centres.  One at The Gates in town on a Tuesday and the second at Loundsley Green on a Friday.  People in crisis, who have been given a voucher by one of the statutory agencies, will come and be given enough food to last them for 3 days whilst the agencies work to sort out a long term solution to their problem.  Food is only given out to those who have a voucher from professionals who know their situation.

The distribution centres will be open for a two hour time slot (probably in the afternoon) once a week in each venue.  So, allowing for set up and tidy up, a volunteer's commitment per session would be around 3 hours but the number of sessions they do per month will be dependant on what they want to offer.

We need:

Welcomers - able to offer a warm welcome with a smile, prepared to make and serve drinks and biscuits as people arrive
Talkers - well actually, good listeners who will engage with people to find out how we can best meet their individual or family's particular food requirements. Most importantly they will be able to listen if someone wants to talk and offer prayer if it's requested.
Packers - those who will take the information given to them and will pack up food to provide 3 balanced meals a day for 3 days for everyone in that family.

If you might be interested in volunteering to help there is a training session on June 4th at Central Methodist Church, Saltergate 10am - 3pm (drinks provided but bring some lunch).  It would be helpful if you are planning to attend if you could contact Ben by email on .  There are plans to hold another training session in an evening in a few weeks time for those who are not able to make this day time training.

There are lots of other ways to help if your gifting is in admin, warehousing, transport, prayer, fund raising, persuading people to consider donating food, communicating to your church, PR or whatever. Consider contacting Ben and see if your talent could be put to good use.

Please pray for the Food Bank, for those who will run it and those who will use it.
