CHESTERFIELD 750 COMMEMORATED

Chesterfield Parish Church
A commemorative stone marking the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Chesterfield was dedicated outside Chesterfield Parish Church this morning.
The Battle of Chesterfield was fought during the Second Barons' War- a three-year civil war between the forces of a number of barons, led by Simon de Montfort, against Royalist forces led by Prince Edward (later Edward I of England), in the name of Henry III.
The memorial was organised by Chesterfield 750.
Along with the dedication of the stone, a refurbished gas light was blessed. The lamp was manufactured in 1824 and originally stood in the market square. It was relocated to the churchyard in the 1970s and has been recently converted to house LEDs.
