LOCAL PROVISION FOR MENTAL WELLBEING

Local Hubs - Initial Community Meeting
Following on from the success of our county-wide conference at St Peter’s Derby on 17th May 2016, we are pleased to offer these exciting morning meetings across Derbyshire for us to explore how we may become even more proactive and effective in our local contexts in developing understanding and provision for mental wellbeing.  Any interested party is welcome to attend the initial meeting in their area.  The aim of the initial meeting and any subsequent meetings is to discuss, gain vision and implement plans around the following themes:

A hub or resource centre
A place to go to...
·         patients, service user, carers
·         befriending
·         counselling
·         volunteering
·         coffee mornings, food bank, art and craft, chair based exercises, luncheon club etc.

A clear signposting and networking service
      Information of available services. Who can I contact?
      Input from the Trust, developing a key link and networking with faith communities
      Mental health professional advice

Initial and ongoing education for faith and community leaders
      Learning to listen, understand and support
      Addressing stigma and common misconceptions
      Person centred working
      Befriending workshops
      Understanding recovery model
      What helps and what harms (internal and external beliefs)
      Identifying boundaries in the provision of care

These morning sessions will include a brief overview of understanding mental wellbeing from practical and holistic perspectives.  Training is delivered by Susanna Morris who is a Registered Mental Health Nurse and Behavioural Therapist.  Her work now centres on providing training to faith groups and charities about mental health.  

As a follow up, there will be a day conference on 9th July at Hope centre in Derby exploring these issues at greater depth, with a particular focus on the Christian faith and church ministry, however, all are welcome.  Booking in advance is essential!  Please see attached poster for details.
