WHAT A GRAND WAY TO END OUR TOUR OF CHESTERFIELD

I have to admit it wasn't looking promising when the rain begain to fall this evening as folk were gathering for the CTfC outdoor prayer meeting for Whittington in Brearley Park.  But as we huddled under a big oak tree God put the most beautiful rainbow in the sky arching between New & Old Whittington reminding us of his covenant promise.

Our time together was opened by local curate, Janet Quick reading from Matthew 9: 36-38
"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.  When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them, because they were harrassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."

Our prayer for Whittington focused on three areas - for the schools with all their pupils and staff, for families in the area experiencing real hardship for a variety of reasons and for the local churches to be a blessing in their community and to see increase in the family of God.

Such a good time with 30 people from at least 6 churches with very different backgrounds but joined in heart to see the blessing of God in Old Whittington, New Whittington and Whittington Moor.  As we prayed, we believe the scripture that says where brothers dwell in unity God commands a blessing.

OFF TO A FLYING START!

Great start to YoungStars this morning with twenty children coming along to the morning session at Queen's Park Annexe plus those who met up with the mobile unit at Brimington.  This afternoon was a little quieter at the Annexe but there were also events on at Parkside School and football training on the astro pitch at the Sports Centre.  Our mobile unit went out to Stand Road Park and provided activities for nine children there.

We have a Youth Club at the Annexe 7-9pm tonight and then we will be back in the morning at 10am for more fun and games.

CHESTERFIELD FOOD BANK NEWSLETTER - THE STORY SO FAR

Hi there

We thought it was time to share what has been happening since the start of the first two Trussell Trust Foodbanks here in Chesterfield. Many thanks to those of you who have signed up to be volunteers, those that have already given their time at one of the two venues and those who helped at the Tesco food collection. So, first of all we opened on Tuesday 25th June at The Gates with a surprise two clients on our first day whom we sent on their way with three days supplies of food.

The second foodbank opened on Friday 12th July with an immediate need of food by four clients. So far we have had fourteen client visits with food distributed to them and their families. Thanks to all the agencies involved who brought them. The collection over Friday 5th and 6th of July at Tesco supermarket, here in Chesterfield, brought in 1.5 tons of food which was delivered to one of our collection points before our warehouse was ready.

Warehouse

We are currently awaiting the vacation of the warehouse premises so that we can prepare it for the storage of our food supply. We are looking for volunteers to help clear the premises and make it ready to move the food in. Anyone with warehouse experience would be warmly welcomed and a working party formed to make it happen. Got a van?

Wedding bells

Congratulations to our volunteer coordinator Ben Martin who gets married this Saturday 20th July may he and his new wife be very blessed now and the future.

Harvest

I know a few churches are thinking of making financial and food contributions this Harvest time, could you let us know who and when?

Volunteers Rota

We will be putting a rota together for the two distribution points and the warehouse starting September. Please could you mail us with your availability, Tuesdays at The Gates and Fridays at Loundsley Green Community Centre plus other days in the week when you could help out in the warehouse.

New Volunteers

There are some of you still waiting to take part in the volunteers training and those of you who have gone through training for whom we haven’t received your agreement forms. If you could let us know if you want to be a trained volunteer for the future we can add you to our list.

ASDA Collection

Saturday 3rd August we join the national Trussell Trust collection at Asda stores including our own here on Sheffield Road in Chesterfield. If you could spare a minimum of an hour between 10:00am and 3:00pm to hand out leaflets and receive the food donations we would appreciate it. Other volunteers for the Tesco collection found this a very moving and satisfactory experience.

UPDATE ON FIRST DAY FOR LOUNDSLEY GREEN FOOD BANK

The Gates had been open for three Tuesdays as a distribution point prior to the launch of the second one at Loundsley Green last Friday.  It's early days and take up at the Gates has been very different each week.  So the volunteers were set up in the Community Centre and raring to go without knowing how many people had been given vouchers for that week.

The place was soon buzzing with teas and coffees being offered as people came in and waited while bags were being packed for them to take home.  In the event we provided food for three days for 7 local people who are having a tough time at the moment.

If you have donated food via your church or at the recent Tesco collection in Chesterfield - a big thank you!  The final total collected at Tesco was 1.5 tonnes of food to which Tesco will add the value of  30% which in effect is a total of around 2 tonnes of food.  Amazing.

WHITTINGTON PRAYERS AL FRESCO

We have reached the last of our prayer meetings around the different areas of Chesterfield as we arrive at Whittington this month.

Ever up for a challenge we have decided to hold our prayer meeting al fresco in Brearly Park, Old Whittington on Tuesday 30th July at 7.30pm.

Come and join us as we pray for those who live, work and go to school in the Whittington area and especially for Rev Jo Morris who takes over at St Bartholomews and St Barnabas on 11th September.

Subject: Fw: Positive Activity Guide info share

Hello, it’s the time of year when we start to collect information about what’s on in the area for the Positive activities guide, last year we held open sessions and compiled a booklet but for some people they were unable to make the sessions and didn’t get a booklet so we have decided to produce this years info all online for you to share with all your contacts. We hope that this will make the process easier for everybody.

We are now in the process of collecting information for this years guide. If you know any groups running activities and are unable to access facebook please ask them to get in touch and we will be more than happy to include their information.

As a guide information will include the event name, location, date, times, contact details, age range, cost, number of people allowed and any special instructions such as lunch provided, disability access, consent forms etc.

It’s also handy to include a link to your website or facebook page if applicable.

Could you try to circulate this email to at least 2 or 3 local groups that would benefit from free advertising e.g. Scouts, local church groups, brownies?

THE FACE BOOK ACCOUNT YOU NEED TO LINK TO IS: www.facebook.com/positiveactivitiesguide

FOOD COLLECTION AT CHESTERFIELD TESCO A BIG SUCCESS!

Been really blessed by the generosity of the people of Chesterfield today.  We've been collecting food donations for Chesterfield Food Bank at Tescos. Some handed over two great heavy bags of shopping that they had bought for the food bank.  Others apologised that their budget only really stretched to one tin but they gave it willingly. Some gave even though they were in need, on very low income and the desire to support those in our community who need help was wonderfully evident.  Most of these people don't know God but they are still made in his image and displaying his character.  I believe that what they have sowed today they will reap in blessing into their families and work situations.  God remains no mans debtor.

We won't know the final figures until later today but whatever weight in food we have collected Tesco will add another 30% of that weight in whatever foods we need most. The guesstimate at the moment is that we will have been given 1.5 tonnes of food to distribute to those who need it.
