CHESTERFIELD FOOD BANK OPENS ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS WEEK

Some of the Chesterfield volunteers were able to visit the Trussell Trust Food Bank in Clay Cross last week to see how it all works first hand.  We were made welcome and very quickly put to work!  The set up was so polished that everything was ready to go in 10-15minutes of our arrival. Some of us landed on their first anniversary which was last Friday and so we were able to enjoy home made bithday cake with everyone who came in.

People who came in are in crisis for a variety of reasons but the most common is simply that they have begun work, all support benefit had been stopped and they have to work one or two weeks before getting any salary.

Chesterfield's Food Bank will open tomorrow to those who have been issued with vouchers from various crisis support agencies across the town.  They will be welcomed and offered a cup of tea or coffee and the chance to chat, if they want to, while their bags are being packed.  They'll go home with enough food for three days to see their household through the immediate crisis situation they are facing while various agencies work to get them the ongoing support they need.
