Brimington Prayer Meeting Tues 30th October

Christians Together for Chesterfield Prayer Meeting in Brimington

Churches Together in Brimington played host this time to around 30 people from various local and townwide churches at Hall Road Methodist Church.  The prayer meeting was led by minister Richard Harris and included suggestions for prayer which had been raised by local church members.  We prayed for staff and children at the local schools, for the soon to be appointed enabling officer to develop youth ministry, for those who make decisions locally affecting services and facilities, for increase in each of the churches, for the flourishing ministry to young children and families, amongst many other things.  All finished off with a nice cuppa and the opportunity to chat to folk - a lovely evening so thank you, Brimington.

The next region we will be praying for is central Chesterfield and the meeting is at Cross St Baptist Church 7.30pm on Tuesday 27th November.  Everyone welcome.

Christians Together for Chesterfield Forum Meeting Tuesday 16th October

Christians Together for Chesterfield

Forum Meeting

Representatives from churches across Chesterfield met this week to look back over the successes of this year and to look forward to what we can achieve together in 2013

Pictured you see tealight candles being lit for each area of Chesterfield to represent every church, chaplaincy or christain agency linked with CTfC.  An  image of how much brighter our light shines when churches work together rather than alone.

We heard feedback on the success of the Community YoungStars summer holiday scheme for children at Queens Park Annexe, that our Street Pastors are continuing to be welcomed on the streets of Chesterfield on a Saturday night.  Discussions are in progress for a new home for the soup kitchen, about the possibiltiy of school pastors in our area and also a food bank - amongst many other projects.

If your church is not already represented at CTfC you would be very welcome to come along to the next forum meeting and report back to your congregation all the great things God's people are doing together in Chesterfield.  The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 5th February 7.30pm venue (tbc) St Thomas', Brampton.  If you would like to receive an email reminder, message us with your address and we will add you to our mailing list for CTfC events.

Chesterfield Street Pastors Invited to Derby Cathedral Celebration

Chesterfield Street Pastors are trained by the St John's Ambulance team to provide first aid to those that need it on a Saturday night in town.

They invited us to join in their annual service of thanksgiving and rededication at Derby Cathedral last Sunday.  A special celebration this year as it marks 125 years for them.
Street pastors never miss an opportunity for a hug!  Here seen with Helen, who has served with St John's in Chesterfield at many local events over a number of years.

Unfortunately not captured on camera this time but the street pastors were unable to resist the temptation to dance along to the stirring tunes played by the marching band outside the cathedral.

Boys Brigade Need Your Help

Anchor Colour (New Style)
Adult Helpers Needed
The 2nd Chesterfield company of the Boys’ Brigade (BB) which meets at Storrs Road Methodist Church Centre wants to increase their outreach to children and young people in the community by a recruiting drive in line with the +10% initiative of the brigade nationally.

To do this, the company is asking Churches in our circuit to circulate members, adherents and their circle of friends to locate any adults who may wish to get involved in the vibrant and enthusiastic team reaching out to children.  The BB caters for Boys and Girls from 6 year-olds (Y2) right through to 18 year-olds (Y13) in its various sections.

What would you be letting yourself in for, you may ask.  Briefly in the form of a Job Description is what would be expected:-

Skills                 Able to communicate with young people and be interested in them.

Attributes       Enthusiastic and willing to attend the regular Monday BB night in term time 1 hour (6 to 7 pm) or 1½ hours (6.30 to 8pm).  Regular attendance allows youngsters to get to know staff and trust them and the other members of the staff to be confident that there will be enough adults during the evening.

Training         All staff are asked to attend a Child Protection session and Youth Leader Training is available in addition for those who wish to become a registered officer.  All training is free; all we need is your time.

Safeguarding  An enhanced CRB (which is also free) is required to be undertaken via BB Headquarters for all who work with BB children.

Brampton Prayer Meeting

Around 18 people gathered together at Storrs Road Methodist Church last Tuesday to pray for the Brampton area.  We heard about the many and various activities which are run regularly by churches in Brampton - Knit and Natter, TOOT, Thom's Blokes, Olive Branch, WOW etc - reaching into and meeting needs in the community.

We prayed for these activities and the local churches, schools and for everyone who lives in the area. Came away more informed and able to pray more effectively for Brampton in the future.

The next CTfC prayer meeting is focussed on Brimington and will take place on Tuesday 30th October 7.30pm at Hall Road Methodist Church, Brimington.  Hope to see you there.
